Hearth repairs- can I put ordinary cement in front of my wood heater?

Hi DIYers I need to repair my fire hearth as the so called “fire suitable tiles” have cracked and it’s a mess. By the time I clear off all the old grout I will have a depth of about 8ml so my question is can I just put ordinary cement in front of my wood heater? I can’t make it any deeper as the heater sits low therefore I don’t think I have many options. Regards Debbie

The hearth is set against the brick wall and over the top of the floor boards
