most people over water house plants .... but that depends on the variety of plant ... many need more light ( not direct sunlight, but bright light ); some are not plants for the home to begin with, and simply can't handle the dry atmosphere and artificial heat.
When you find a plant that appeals to you, write down the name off the sales tag, or take a picture of it with your phone and then 'research' the care that plant requires before you purchase it.
rain water works wonders. Make sure there is adequate drainage ( use plastic water bottles under potting soil). Northern sunlight works for most plants. Plain old ivy can grow in the dark almost. Miracle Gro makes a fertilizer spike which you can use to add nutrients to house plants. DO NOT overwater!!!!
thanks
