hit them with a pressure washer, let dry. now then, you have a few options. stain or paint them, or if you like the natural wood look, there are clear sealants. Thompsons water seal is one, there are others less costly. you still have to brush them on, and it will take 2 coats. let coat 1 dry. next day do the second.
power washer, let wood dry. then you can decide if you want to paint or stain the wood, or just put a clear sealer on it - one for sealing wood. it needs at least 2 coats brushed on, and take care to get the sealer or paint in all cracks crevasses.
