Patti, we developed a privacy problem when we cut down some trash trees between us and neighbors before they got too large.

We want something practical and inexpensive! We are going to use plumbing pipe and 90 degree connectors to build a frame up from the railing.

We will use a flange connector on the top railing, put up a 3' tall 1/2" pipe from the railing; then put a 90 degree connector and turn it to the left; add an 8' long 1/2" pipe to attach to the post on the other side using another flange. (If you don't have a post to connect to, use another 90 degree fitting and turn it downward and put in another 3' length of pipe upward.)

From this we will hang a white shower curtain that will be put up when we want privacy and taken down and put away inside when not in use.

You could do the same thing with your bamboo curtains. I don't want to leave things out permanently because we get so much rain and wind.

Below the railing, we are going to use some cedar fencing a friend gave us to close in the bottom of the porch on the 2 open sides. We will cut some of the boards down the middle and alternate a pattern of 5" board with two 2-1/2" boards, then another 5" board. We want privacy but also want some air circulation. This will also help keep leaves off the porch.

Home Depot will cut your pipe to length and re-thread it.!

Lattice provides privacy and doesn’t block breeze. I’ve not done this myself but a friend of mine did. I was skeptical at first but was pleasantly surprised. It looks good and does the job.
