First, I would repaint the walls and ceilings. It all looks dark and a bit "muddy" to me. Will you be adding in pot lights? I think that would help the space immensely. You've got interesting angles on the ceiling and a fairly large space - pot lights would open it even more.
The front area looks like a beautiful little sitting area. Two nice easy chairs and a small table between them or perhaps even a love seat and chair - you'll need to measure the space.
The back of the area looks as though it was previously used as the dining space, based on the light fixture. Do you have an eat in kitchen or will you want a large dining table out there? That area makes sense as it appears closest to the kitchen. I think if you use a large round dining table there you could also fit in another sitting area unless you've got another living room or family room?
You'll need to define what you want to use that area for.
Then, any furniture you already own you can measure. Get some graph paper and cut out the proper sized pieces for the furniture and label each one. Measure the room and put it out on the graph paper - include all doors, windows, closets, etc. This way, you can rearrange the furniture merely by pushing the paper pieces around instead of dragging everything around the room!
It does not look to me that there would be enough space to crawl through the attic and 'fish' the new wires needed to install pot lights, due to the angles in the ceiling.
I would install roof trusses across the room and paint it white.
Take away the wall opposite the entrance door. Open space gave more natural light.
Add some wall paper to one of the existing walls.
Install shutter blinds to the windows.
Let the paint you are going to use flow and match with decor.
White wash the floor for that perfect finish.
Put a larger fancier light, where light hangs in photo. It's the first thing you see coming in. Maybe some floor lamps to lighten up that nice "sitting area", in that cute corner. Yes, paint walls to brighten up, a nice soft yellow or green. I think the view from the front door should have a nice welcoming feel. Maybe a large long bureau type piece, with a huge vase of flowers, a candle stick, those small lamps on each end. Large rectangle shaped picture on wall. Maybe a roll top desk area, to the left of the window, for mail, keys, writing.
Not sure what your DIY abilities are but maybe you could build out a window seat in front of that window and then add a couple of sitting chairs. What a fun place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Also, as others have mentioned, the back area looks like it could be used as a dining room... Be sure to add an area rug under the dining table to clearly define the space.

IT DEPENDS WHAT ACTUAL ROOM THAT YOURE USING IT FOR(Dining room, or Akward Living room space)!? You can put a average length Couch in front of the windows and go from there with the other part of the furniture desdigns and wall decor etc., or you can put a Dining table in the window area and make the other part of the room a living space with furniture Wall decor etc.!!!
Or you can also make it a nice office space!!
