How do i fix a ceiling that isn't smooth?
Older farmhouse with not so smooth ceilings. Is there anything on the market to use as a cover-up such as lightweight boards, etc.

HD, Lowes, Amazon and other places like this carry light weight faux tin ceiling tiles. They look gorgeous, and cover up a lot of sins. They come in a lot of colors and styles. A little glue, a few brad nails, and you have a beautiful farmhouse ceiling.
There are a lot of different types of ceiling tiles, you just need to shop; a lot of them also provide insulation. When we moved into our home 40+ years ago there was a crack in the living room ceiling and the Sheetrock was coming down on both sides of the crack. Our neighbor (retired carpenter) told my husband how to pull the ceiling back up and we tiled over it using glue and staples (staple gun).
I would investigate what is under it in a small spot before attacking your project; if it isn't something that will hold the staples or nails all of you word will be undone. Try in a corner or near a fixture or drill a small hole somewhere.
Yes, there is a coverup product avaiLabel in most hardware stores or online, even flooring stores. You can pick from unfinished boards, prefinished boards, styrofoam faux tin tiles, etc.
