I used pavers around the outside edge. then I filled the space between the pavers with small stones. This helped prevent grass from growing by the pool. Next I used solar lights around the pool.
Build a deck around part of the pool for benches or chairs & small table.
Just wanted to give you a little advice as a pool owner---- don't plant any flowers or shrubs too close that attract bees. They may sting your swimmers. Plant some low growing non-flowering shrubs.

A neighbor of mine has had several Paver Painting Parties and also includes this activity often with guests and holiday get togethers. Each guest is given a paver, paint brushes, acrylic paints...and they painted something that "says" something about themselves. Signed and dated it. Has turned out to be a really cute Ground border for their above ground pool.
