What are you thinking of converting it into? Part of your post is missing
I’m looking for conversion ideas without having it resilvered.
well, you could measure it and get a frame to go around it - nail to wall. If the silver is missing, treat it like an antique and sponge paint it with dark silver paint. That way you don't have to remove the mirror.
This appears old and heavy. If you frame it, be sure you have adequate toggle bolts/anchors in the wall to support the total weight. If sections are o.k., you could try cutting it into smaller sections.
Hang shelving over it, it will hide the worn silver , make the roof look larger while reflecting your decor items on the shelves.
Try gluing glass color gem stones all along the edges. You can use any color (s) and as many as you like. It will add Pizaz to your whole mirror!
Hometalk has many tutorials for framing bathroom mirrors in place. One of those may provide inspriation to frame this mirror. I like the idea of working with the "antique" look of the lost silvering, and framing to match if it's your style
Go to a box store and pick out some beefy (3" or larger) crown moulding. Simply measure it and cut the corners at 45 degree angles. Use strongr glue to connect the corners. After it dries, use a staple gun to reinforce the corners. Lay a large cloth down outside and then paint the frame. Allow time to dry in between coats paint - 2 to 3. It will add a nicely detailed frame to you mirror inexpensively. I did this for a huge mirror and it turned out well. I used a spray paint from Lowe's called Hammered Metal in a bronze color.
Hello Deborah,
Yes, You need timber or Picture Framing of your choice, and double sided Tape. Stick or Screw it into the holes you already have on the face of the Mirror to cover the edges. You can off course Stick it in place too!
