Hi there Leading Lady! If you need some privacy, you could use some peel and stick frosted window film on the bottom of your window, while still keeping the view out the top. Maybe create a simple valance. You can use a tension rod and tie a variety of ribbons to the rod to make a shabby chic valance to add interest over your window. I think you will enjoy the project and the new look!
Hi! You could paint that wall in an accent color, add some pretty wooden blinds to the window for privacy and hang a long swag on the curtain rod. Or go curtainless and put a long shelf with brackets across the top of the window and put some ‘pretties’ up there.
Seems you have a nice ledge on the bottom of this window, as well as a tension rod on the existing curtains. You could get a lacy valance (straight, not curved) for the top, using your tension rod. On the ledge, you could arrange some plants and ornaments which serve to create beauty and privacy.
In a kitchen, I'd remove the curtain and put in blinds. If it's a large wall, hang a collection of things you like ie: cast iron fry pans, antique kitchen gadgets - etc.
shelves for anything. I would put shelving all on that wall and over the window.
Add a wide white board/moulding from the top of the window to the floor on each side of the window. Add a stacked moulding at the top of the window.
Here is an example of the trim.
Sliding barn doors?
Why not place a baker's rack to one side of the window, for cookbooks, food processor, coffeemaker, etc., or pitchers, tureens, etc? A bookcase could go on the other side, or you could mount the drapers higher, and beyond the window, to reduce wall space.
Add a paneling of your choice stain up wall 4'. Put a nice trim across top of it and a border that matches the theme of the room. Top of walls paint white to add brightness to room and allow different color scemes from accents.
There are window films you can put on the window to create a variety of effects...from frosting to mirrored to various shades of darkness to stained glass effect...its all up to you. Use a pretty curtain and valance to match the look you want and Voila! Instant transformation!
Hi LeadingLady CoCa,
I can see you've received a lot of ideas. When I saw your question I was thinking that some artwork would look nice on that wall. I think it depends on the purpose of that wall. Do you need more storage or do you want to decorate? As for curtains, I personally like a country style look because it can give you privacy and also light in the room. Something like this: http://ep.yimg.com/ay/swags-galore/somerset-curtains-33.gif
Another idea might be to install a painted fax brick wall as a focus wall. Take a look at what this project to see if you like that idea.

Wishing you the best.
My old 40s house has those 54" wide windows with the 4" wide wood trim, so I painted the trim cobalt blue and put blue gingham cafe curtains up and privacy film underneath just the area where the curtains hit.
I would for sure add a shower rod and make sure to have nice bright panels on each side .. nice comode that will store serving needs ..some shelves ,art work ... What a great project to have
