How do I split the use of a extra bedroom?
I have a bedroom that I need to use for both my granddaughter (5mo) and my daughters event planning supplies. My granddaughter visits daily & sometimes spends the night. One of my daughters lives with me & has started an event planning business. I have access to some additional space in a carport but not enough room in it for everything which is why some inside room is also needed. I have a fairly small home and the room size is not big at all. I’m lost as to maximize the space if possible to accommodate some of the event planning supplies and what I need for my granddaughter. Here is a picture of the room that is getting out of hand, can you help?

Hello Wri, I would seriously consider a Murphy bed, or storage platform bed, and some serious storage shelving. That would help to make the most of your space. If you’re handy with tools and have the time in a white website is fabulous. I’ll post a link here for your consideration and have a look at her other options.

I would contain the event planning supplies in a wardrobe type unit that opens to make a workspace/desk. This could actually take up the entirety of one wall and can be closed up when needed for your granddaughter. Additionally, as your granddaughter ages and requires a bed instead of a crib, you could consider a Murphy bed to share the spaces
A wall of floor to ceiling shelves would store the supplies and only takes a 12” wide strip of floor space. I did the same for craft supplies in guest room. I used the shelves in the corner for the wider things so that it wasn’t a tripping hazard.
Build in some lower shelves for some of the event planning supplies, some middle shelves for things for the granddaughter, and upper shelves for the rest of the event planning supplies. Make the lower shelves wider apart so they will hold the larger supplies, then the daughter can keep things put away {on the shelves} so the center of the room is clean and easy to navigate. Good Luck with your 'full house'.
If u can move the hanging clothes to another area of ur home u can put in either shelving or cube storage. Also if u can install a wall shelf over the area where ur granddaughter sleeps it can b used as a workspace but then b folded up for ur granddaughter. Just b sure it is securely fastened when it is upright.
Used armoires are cheap these days and hide lots of stuff. I would also go all the way to the ceiling with shelves, your daughter can use a letter when accessing her materials. Make sure whatever storage system you decide on is anchored to the wall in case your grand daughter tries to climb them.
On idea would be a storage loft bed and a wall unit for other storage
You can buy a pack and play for the baby and a mattess that fits into it. When they baby isn't there to sleep you can fold it up and store it. It will fit under a regular bed.
jes, I'm sure she won't be putting a baby in a Murphy bed. But it WILL be nice to have the room done and the frame built for it for when the baby is older. This stuff doesn't happen in a snap.
