How do I clean or replace the fans in my bathrooms. I can see that they are very dirty and usually will not exhaust the bathrooms?

You have to get in there and clean them. Sorry for the bad news but very dirty bathroom fans are a fire hazard. Turn the bathroom breaker off, get up on a ladder and pry the top off. Once inside you should see where you can take the fan off to wash it. Then use the vacuum to remove as much of the built up gunk as you can. Great thing that you noticed it.
some bath fans don't actually exhaust the air, they filter it instead. when the older fan quit, i had a that type of fan installed in my bath.....kept it much warmer. i live in a state that can get 115 degree heat waves, and a -70 actual temp in the winter.
the cover should pop off.. but i just use an old toothbrush to knock the dust off the air vents.
Hi, most of the fans are a tab and 1 screw set up with a plug in right up in the roof, you can remove the grate and use a Phillips screwdriver to take out the one screw after you have unplugged it. then lower the side the screw was in and the tab will let go, clean it up and make sure you let it dry fully ( about 24 hours to be safe) and put a light lubricant on the part that spins before re installing it, you can clean the cover as well.
I will try to get my son up her to my home and try your suggestion out. Thank you.
