I think you can’t accomplish a great yard unless you build a dog run or get tethers. The tether gives them 360degree freedom, and you get to decide which part of the yard you want civilized.
Or build a raised deck.
Check out the reviews for these, they often include great advice about the dogs adapting to this new restrictions.

My first recommendation is to build a dog sandbox somewhere in your yard. Once you do this you will train them to dig there by burying treats, and other dog toys for them to dig up. We did this with our dog and it was a huge success. For the weeds put vinegar in a weeds sprayer to kill them. The stronger the vinegar the faster it'll work - but don't spray the weeds in your grass as it will kill the grass as well.
Oh dear, I know exactly how you feel. We put fake grass down along the fence where our fur babies keep on running and that helped a lot. Best of luck
Before you fill the holes, insert chicken wire or hardware cloth.
covering with a couple of inches of soil. If needed, sprinkle in hot pepper flakes. Be prepared for some sore paws until they realize they can't dig anymore. You may have to line the perimeter of the lawn with an attractive gravel where they run.
My husband burried garage door springs in their favorite spots to keep them from digging. Eventually they ran out of places to dig. He's a garage door guy though so I know that wouldn't exactly be cost effective for everyone. Maybe make a little gated in area just for them? Or a dog run so they'd still get to exercise but couldn't access the whole yard
I also have two big dogs. I had a cement company put a cute walkway around my yard. I always had mud and no grass. It is pressed brick. Of course it was a few thousand dollars.
