I don't know exactly understand the look you are after. To begin I would go to a local paint store for some expert advice not a local Home Depot type place. Whatever ypu choose to put on your walls I would use tsp to remove grease and grime and rinse well.

If your walls have lots of imperfections, you could do the pearl in a strie technique which gives it a combed appearance. I do this with a large wallpaper brush.

What type of walls are they? Make sure you clean well first. TSP is a great product that Rosy suggested. At one time, Disney had a line of paint with a hint of glisten to them. But without a photo or more information on the existing walls it's hard to offer helpful advice.
