Back Yard Oasis for Less Than 40 Bucks!
HI Johnny. I would start by thinking about how big you want your pond and then either look on-line for inspiration on how you want it to look or purchase a pond book. Then you can use spray paint and start spraying an outline. Next you can decide where you want the water fall, and where you would want to put the filter and/or skimmer. If you plan on having plants in the pond you can also decide on digging shelves or ledges into the edges so they can sit on the shelf and not be so deep. Then I would make a list of the materials you need (pumps, waterfall box, filter, skimmer, pond liner, Geotextile (this goes under the liner to protect the liner from getting puncture from any rough rocks or roots), power source, etc. Then start digging. Where the waterfall goes you may want to build that part up. Lay your Geotext down and then the pond liner. Next fill up the pond. What we did was one went into the pond as it filled to make sure we were getting it nice and flush to the ground and the shelves we made. The other stayed out pulling the liner up where it needed to be. We used big rocks from around our yard. We have a ton of field stones and holy rocks. I then planted rock crops in between the rocks and planted around the pond. Here is a picture. Ours is about 900 gallons. Good Luck and enjoy!
Hi Johnny: If you just want a small prefab pond, you can purchase the pond shape at Lowes or Home depot. You can either sink it in the ground or put it on top of the ground then stack pavers around the pond. You can then put plants and or statues or yard art around the pond. They also sell motors to make a water fall.
