Hi Terry! Although some people have added solar to their homes, locally, I don't see it as much as you would think. My husband works for an electric utility, and he is seeing it more in their service area on businesses and in rural areas. He says big factors are if your roof can support the additional weight, if the exposure to sun is sufficient and cost.. I found there are many articles about installing solar, so hope this helps: https://www.citylab.com/life/2016/04/want-solar-panels-on-your-roof-heres-what-you-need-to-know/476805/
Solar energy is a hot market, there are hundreds of companies out there, some good and some very shady. Quality of panels is paramount. Do your research and get quotes from at least 3 solar providers in your area. Next is your debate, purchase or lease? If you are planning on leasing, if you go to sell the house before the term of the lease is up, the potential new buyers of your home "must qualify" separately from the mortgage. Could be a deal breaker for the sale of your home. Here are a few sites to help you out.

Hi Terry,
People are constantly bombarded with putting solar panels on their houses.
Of course, what is provided and supported by the solar company is critical, another objective view is how much you are currently paying for your gas and electric.
Up here in Maryland, they tell us if we are paying less than $99/month, then we do not need to go to solar, it is not cost effective.
