Take a iron and a paper bag and iron the fibers
I read in my tidbits to place ice cubes over the indented areas, let melt, then vacuum over the areas when dry. Not sure this works (I have vinyl tiles), but I wish you the best.
Some people will dampen (not wet) the area and then run the vacuum over it will still damp. Others will dampen and then use a stiff brush and go over the area and then vacuum. You could also contact a quality carpet company and ask them what they recommend.
Dampen the spot with an ice cube then put a towel or dish towel over the indentation and steam it up with your steam iron.
Let an ice cube melt on the area, pat dry and vacuum
Linda, I found two videos on this, so I'll send you both. I have always had good luck with dampening the carpet and setting an iron on it. Let me know how it works for you.

Woolite and a Vaccuum.
I take a fork and run it across the area that lays down. That usually works for me.
