Ideas on covering the wall and part of the ceiling above a fireplace?
We have water damage at the top of the fireplace wall and about 6-8” into the ceiling. Any ideas on a creative cover-up? I had thought about bead board but didn’t know what it would look like on a small section of the ceiling. Thank you.

Hi Nona, personally I would just repaint I think that would really help
Try smoothing out a little (it looks rough textured) and apply Kilz. If there is any age to your ceiling, Kilz is usually a better match than trying to paint white.
If the leak has been fixed I would prime with a stain blocking primer (Kilz or Zinsser) and then paint both the ceiling and the wall. Then I would consider doing a crown molding. You can DIY crown using foam crown molding very easily and inexpensively. Google "foam crown molding" and there are all kinds available, and videos of how to do it yourself. Best wishes.
I'm assuming the flashing around your chimney has been resealed to prevent further leaks. You will need to use a stain blocker to cover up any water stains before painting. You can use a stiff nylon brush to smooth away any existing pealing from ceiling and wall. Prime the area that was damaged and let dry 24 hours then repaint. I would recommend you pick up a few paint color cards at the paint department, choosing colors that are most likely to match. Then place the paint color card against the wall to be repainted to find the perfect match.
