What type of sky light? Long rectangular, or more like a round portal?
Hi Sarah! I'm of a certain age, also, so I can tell you it depends how safe you are on a ladder, and how handy you are. Here's an article to help you decide:

Hi Sarah,
We had a contractor replace our badly corroded and cracked sky lights, and he was reluctant to do so, gave absolutely no guarantee/warranty other than he would do his best.
This is a very tricky project because it is literally a hole in the roof and subject to weather conditions.
That being said, it would depend on your skill set and agility.
Hi Sarah, we share a name and age. That being said, I agree that you need to at least get a professional opinion/bid. You live in an area that has a cold winter with freezing that will play a large part int the repair/replacement. Good luck.
