Ambiecraftsreads on Jun 09, 2014You need storage. Try using long wooden boxes under the bed. Try putting baskets on the wall. They can hold jewelry and things.Helpful Reply

Darla on Jun 09, 2014First, find a place to put all the things your teen needs. Ask them for input. You can warn your teen that anything left on the floor Monday morning will get put in a garbage bag and s/he will have to come and ask you for it.Helpful Reply

Andrea on Jun 09, 2014if the slanted ceiling makes the wall short consider built in bookcases with baskets along the wall and agree with Darla, definitely get input from your teen - find out what makes it easier to keep organized - clear or hidden storage. A platform bed with drawers beneath is also something to consider.Helpful Reply

Elizabeth on Jun 09, 2014Well lets see, a 10 x 10 room is 100 sq ft. A twin bed removes about 21 sq ft if placed on the floor leaving you with about 76 sq ft. I use that figure to include the unusable floor space of the bedroom door opening and/or the closet door opening. The key thing is that you want the room to grow with your child. Include a desk. If your child is a girl you may also want to include a vanity. You can also raise the bed to include pull out drawers underneath the bed. Place them on wheels for easy sliding. A desk could be a simple drop leaf hanging from the wall, when not in use, it lays flat against the wall. For the closet a hanging shoe rack, the type that has pockets is wonderful. Clear plastic is best, everything from legos, to barbie dolls, to pens and pencils, to actually placing shoes in them. don't forget a comfortable chair or two. One for the desk and a small easy chair. The easy chair is good especially when a parent wants to come in and talk to your child. When my son was younger, I got a wooden coat rack that was pretty thick. I screwed plastic pails to the rack and he was very good at picking up his little toys. Good Luck!Helpful Reply

Sabrina's Organizing on Jun 10, 2014Using vertical space is crucial in a small room. My daughter has a smaller room too. Tall IKEA bookshelves strapped to the wall with tinted cabinet doors work nicely to store all the books and other items. Here is the link for the cabinet doors. They get attached to Billy bookcases. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50279066/ . For her other items, we purchased 2 sets of 4 drawers with a cabinet above from IKEA that is about 15 inches deep to save on floor space. These cabinets are floor to ceiling height. With all three items and a desk plus a small built in closet and a smaller wardrobe closet, she is able to hold all her items and keep the floor clear. If you do not have an IKEA near you, you can find these types of items at any home improvement store as well.Helpful Reply
