You can find a good copper cleaner almost anywhere ... chose one you you prefer ... if you want to keep it as a lamp, you can update cords and sprocket ... not knowing what the lamp looks like, would be difficult to give ideals for up-cycling ...

This is the best, I could do.
I just purchased a bunch of old copper items and I cleaned them with ketchup. They came out like new. Just smear it on and wait an hour and wash it off with dish soap.
