Take a putty knife scrap anything hanging off lower then the plaster all the bumps cracks in paint on the scene
First scrape the crack the full length and then clean out the loose plaster, after you have completed that task you will need to get a either a roll of fiberglass tape or paper tape. Now if you use the paper you will have to apply joint compound and then place the paper over the compound smoothing it with a trowel then go back over the tape again with another coat of compound let dry and then go back over and scrape to make sure that there aren't any high spots. Repeat the process until you blended with the ceiling.

Ugh I have the same woes. And they put the popcorn junk on my ceilings! Oh how I have hated it. now with the same sort of cracks along the seams.. ugh. I dearly wish I had the $$$ to hire someone to scrape off the popcorn... OR better still, man how I'd love to put up that pressed tin stuff...
Those answers are correct on how to fix the crack, however, you really need to contact a foundation expert to make sure the crack wasn't caused by a foundation issue. Otherwise, the crack will just keep coming back and others will appear. Good luck to you!
That looks like a "live" or structural crack. That means that your house moves/expands and contracts with the weather. The "how to's" are good but will not last. The best you can do is try to hide or camouflage it.
you need to make sure your roofing isn't leaking first.
if you have a tile roof even a small crack can, over time leak and make the internal ceiling crack like in your photo.
Scrap all stuff not laying flat then plaster all cracks put painters tape across the seam then plaster again so it won’t come back
You could also buy a tube of Big Stretch Fill in the crack smooth it out and paint.
