How to clean stuffed animals without ruining fur?
I collect stuffed bears that are realistic in appearance. I have made the mistake of putting a few in the washer and dryer and getting them out with melted fur. Right now, I have a huge bear that is actually a body pillow, and I want to clean him but I'm a little gun-shy. Any suggestions?

I like the garbage bag and baking soda idea.

I wash all my stuffed animals and none have ever melted. Dryer setting is too high. Dry on gentle cycle and set aside for a few days to dry completely, or set in the sun on old towels.
I wash the pets stuffed toys once a week and none have ever melted.
I would wash on gentle or delicate and cold water. Air dry. Maybe a little dryer gentle heat or air dry for fluffiness.
Tie it up in a pillow case, or other large fabric since it is so big, wash on gentle cycle, cold water, and dry on low.
Thanks Everyone!
Some great answers, many thanks!
