You can buy the ribbon burlap and weave it through your fence, or buy clamarÃa plants once they start growing , they will untwine themselves in your fence!$
You could get some webbing and weave it through the open links in the fence. Webbing is usually sold for repairing lawn chairs and can be found at most hardware store or check on line at amazon or menards or lowes or home depot. It's usually sold in a variety of colors and will give your chain link fence a basket weave look. It should last several seasons and will give your fence a whole new look. Good luck.
Hi Elaine,
This is really easy, there are strips of plastic at DIY stores that you can weave through your fence. They are pre cut and I am not sure about the length of them, it would vary because of the height, length, and pattern you would want to do. They are very sturdy and withstand the elements.
Thank You all, but I have a lot of chain link fence. I don't think weaving any thing is my solution.
If you have water available, and depending upon where you live, you can plant a vine like wisteria at several locations along the fence. It will grow, bind itself to the fence and provide excellent privacy. I have this at my house and it works beautifully. Just requires an occasional light pruning, which is easily done with a hedge trimmer.
They sell special covers just for this at Lowes and you can see them here - https://www.lowes.com/pl/Fence-screens-Fencing-gates-Building-supplies/4294402522

Use your fence to grow grapes. Vines are beautiful and you have the added benefit of grapes.
my mother in-law used metal mini blind strips, slide them down the links, you can use colors that you like. We live in Montana, I think you can even do an area then a climbing plant, then strips alternate to make an impact fence
How about sailcloth added to the fence, grommets and rope?
