You should also include at least one lamp for whatever room you will be occupying and an outlet or two to keep your cell phones / tablets charged. Here are some basic guides to help you out.

This is my calculation of 3,000 watts:
Freezer needs 500 running watts + 500 surge watts = 1,000. Fridge needs 800 running watts + 1200 surge watts = 2,000.
I have added a link that has a great table that has these 2 items along with quite a few others you might want to consider when purchasing a generator. I have a 5,500 and it runs the refrigerator, furnace blower (gas heat), microwave, tv, and lights. We rarely lose power in the summer so I'm never really concerned with the freezers since they are in the garage without insulation.

We live in South Florida and our generator runs @ 9400 Watts peak and 7500 Watts steady. This powers our water pump, our water heater and 2 refrigerators, as well as ceiling fans. It only feels strained when the water pump runs because we are on well water, we also just heat the water heater once each day when we lose power and it hold hot water for the day.
