How to finish a basement concrete floor easily and inexpensively?
My granddaughter lives in the basement part of her house. We ripped up the carpeting that was there because it had flooded previously and was musty. I need a way to finish it for her that won't be too difficult or costly. There is a fear that it may flood again at some point, since we don't know why it happened. Don't know what would hold up best if it did happen again. Have read about concrete paint and stain, but want something environmentally safe. Thank you

Use indoor outdoor area carpet or grass carpet that can be picked up easily. Paint exposed border.
Hi Paulette,
There are several brands of environmentally safe paint. I haven't personally used any of them so if it was my project, I'd search the internet for review about each product. That then brings up the question "Do I want to buy locally or do I want to buy online?" Only you can answer that for your project. You could find out what brands are carried in your local stores by looking at their websites, then look up reviews for those. I did come across an interesting website about doing exactly what you want to do along with some information that you should know and check out. I hope this helps you get started with your search. Wishing you a successful project. -Linda

Hi Paulette, look on this website there are many ladies using a concrete overlay for bathroom sinks and counters. You could always lay that down. Depending of course on the surface area. I have a hair dresser who uses vinyl wood look tile. She had a flood at her shop and tile held up nicely. They snap together I believe. I would recommend keeping it w/o anything until you discover source of leak. You may need to seal walls with some type of water proofing sealant. Water may be seeping in. Get fans to see if you can dry it out. Always something with homeownership! Good luck!
you can put down ceramic tile, seal the grout. some lino tile held up, but we did have to re glue a few pieces.
Vinyl plank flooring. Looks like wood, ceramic tile, and porcelain tile.
