The fur makes me think a rabbit, though typically itโs down in the hole prepping a bed for babies.

Sounds like Mrs. Bunny has taken up residence. Mama pulls out some of her own hair to line the nest for babies. She covers over the nest so to keep her little ones safe from hawks.
