How do you use chalk paint?
Have a chest that is old and beat up and needs a facelift. Seen lots of projects using chalk paint and would like to know the steps. Would be grateful for any guidelines or suggestions. Thanks

Hello, chalk paint is pretty much used the same as any paint. If the chest has a sealer on it you will have to lightly sand before painting. If it is dark wood, prime before you paint and if not just paint it whatever color you want.
Thank you for your help.
Hi! I painted an oak jewelry chest with chalk paint. The project was easy, and it came out well. You can check out the steps I used here: http://momhomeguide.com/chalk-painted-jewelry-chest/
Take a good photo to the paint department of the home improvement store and ask them what will work for you. They have the best selection, the most up-to-date materials and most important, the most informative sales staff to get you what you need for a professional job.
You should always clean a piece first! Use tsp, it will clean and act as a liquid sand paper, removing a shiny finish. If you sand, sand w the grain. Chalk paint is wonderful! You need to seal it once done, however. Use wax. Check out Miss Mustard Seed. She has videos and products. If the piece isn't wood but plastic or mdf, sand it well so products can stick. You might need a special primer if it's plastic.
Hello Glenric,
Chalk paint is a wonderful way to renovate furniture. I favor the Rustoleum products, their products and support are fabulous. Perhaps it might be available in a color —that you like?
Heres some helpful links, I hope this helps!

Thank you to all that responded to my question. Very helpful information from everyone.
This question is right up our alley!~
First Glenice, all chalk paints are not created equal. Make sure to do a little homework before you purchase. Our paint was made specifically to help beginners feel successful. Self leveling, covers with one to two coats and goes a long way.
We do have A LOT of tutorials and Lives on our FB page. Plus, all month long we are doing giveaways so you just might win some FREE paint.
On our website we do have some "HOW - TO" advice as well. Here is the link.

But basically, you just need to clean your piece well. We have a product called White Lightning that takes all the grease and grime off your piece. Once it is clean, use a damp brush and start painting thin coats. It is SUPER EASY!!! That's why we are called the Easy Peasy chalk mineral paint. After you let the paint dry, about 15 minutes, you can always use a clear coat or wax if you want to. That is the glory of Dixie Belle.....no top coat or wax required. If you want to do a quick buff the paint is silky smooth.
Hope that helps! Teri -
