How can you make a small room for 3 girls work, with study tables?
Hi. We only have 2 rooms at home (i live in the philippines and if you know the culture, you'd understand that the house is given to the son and the son's family lives there and so on)...so my husband inherited their bungalow w/ 2 rooms and an extended small room above the kitchen (which is where the live-in help stays and lives). So basically, 1 room is for me and my husband and youngest son and the other room is for my 3 daughters (20,15, &14). Their room is small. so what i have done is a double deck and another double deck w/ no bottom bed so 1 study table is placed there instead, and the other 2 study tables are by the wall. it's a very tight fit. the room is small (have i said this already? :) ) ... so what do you suggest?

Loft beds
Is there enough room to put all three beds up like you did with the one bed and have the study desks below. It will basically be in a U shape. It will require a little bit of carpentry if it can be done.
What about a roll-out bed for under the bottom bunk? then remove the second set of bunks altogether and build in a wall length work surface for them to share as a desk?
Build fold-down or fold-up hinged work surfaces. These could fold up, over the windows, or down toward the floor. The hinges holding each work surface to the wall would be at working height for whatever seating you have. Each surface would be large enough for laptop (?) a stack of books, writing space, calculator, and small lamp if required. Or use a tall floor lamp or a wide wall fixture to light all three work places. The rollout bed idea is a good one, IMO.
I suppose there is no chance of adding on a room or a lean-to? No, didn't think so. Don't forget, one can hang things from the ceiling, if it's sturdy enough: Lighting, Pencil/pen baskets. etc. In US there was a fad of "lap desks" for awhile. A flat surface with a pillow attached on the bottom, which allowed the desk to settle comfortably on the user's lap.
Maybe the girls one of these would fit in the toolkit for writing time? Trading it around as convenient.
last graph: maybe the girls would find one of these would fit in the toolkit for writing time, trading it around as convenient.
:) the fold down / fold up might not be a good idea bec they have TONS of stuff (and i mean TONssss) so they would want their own work space..
i'm thinking probably doing the long work table (for 2) across the double deck and keep 1 study table.
oohhh i'm excited...next project: :) find a really good carpenter
