I recently discovered Oil Bond (you can get it here on Amazon https://amzn.to/2wGmiNO) where you rub this first on your cabinets. This helps the paint stick so you DON'T NEED TO SAND!! Also add a bit of Oil Bond to your paint. I would also spend a bit more for specific cabinet paint to ensure a smooth finish. I recently did this on my bathroom vanity and it turned out fantastic!

Without a doubt, i have done my own share of painting and recently used this on my kitchen counters. By using annie sloan chalk paint, there is no need to sand or prime or scrape or even take doors of hinges. Use a magic eraser ti clean cabinets...using a dry brush technique (just a little paint of your brush, almost none at all) just start paintung cabinets. When done, use clear wax by annie sloan to rub like you would a car wax onto cabinets. It takes a couple of weeks for the wax to cure but by being careful, my kitchen was not out of commision at all. This paint is odorless and cleans up with water. If you want a different base color, just paint it solid first and then dry brush a darker color and a white. Paint dries within minutes. I was able to use my kitchen, just disnt cook anything that splatters grease in the 2 week period where it cures. It is a tad peicey for the quart but it spreads very easily and especially for dry brush, you should only need one quart. Hope this helps!! This is the most user friendly paint i have found to date.

I would use milk paint. Only minimal prep work is required. You can see the steps I used here: http://momhomeguide.com/my-painted-kitchen-cabinets-a-year-later/
