Yes you have to refinish. I don't think it's a stain, I think has bleached out from the sun, because under the rug is darker.
Try using Bona for Hardwood floors.
Try using floor wax. In time it will fade.
when you clean the floors ALWAYS work 'with' the grain ... these marks will eventually disappear ...
