Front of house flower or shrub beds?
How can I get a professional look to the beds on either side of my front steps. The house is so great looking except for the 2flower beds that have me totally stumped?

I had the same issue but didn't have money to spend. I put in hastas that I received from a relative. I like that I cut them down in the winter for a clean look and in the summer they fill in nicely.
Hi Loretta,
We had some profession landscapers come to our home to give us ideas and quotes. The bushes around our home had been in place for a very long time and needed to be replaced. We looked in our local paper and asked friends we knew who to call. There are a couple of places online that will also help you find someone local. One is homeadvisor.com. You can look there for a professional landscaper in your area. Another place is nextdoor.com. This is a website where they gather neighbors together in groups based on zip codes and your address (We have about 15 groups in our zip code.) These are people who live in your neighborhood or zip code who you can ask about what local company they have used and who they like. I hope this helps you find someone who will work with your to create gardens that you like. -Linda
Oh my! You’ll probably get a lot of feedback! I assume the yard is flat. My vision of your yard is seeing a semi embedded large circle or square stone walkway coming from your steps straight down to where you park your car. Assuming it’s straight down. On either side of your steps you may consider placing bendable pathway material to give it your own twist. (there are many other materials to choose from, brick, stone, wood, etc. square off in front of the house. There are so many beautiful plants and shrubs to use. There are tiny Christmas trees, shrubs, flowering shrubs, year round rose bushes. Use a cedar mulch over the soil to get that Christmasy smell. Do a mirror image on either side of the walkway in front. You will get a lot of ideas. Grab your pencil and start sketching and then head over to the Nursery or Big Box store for plant ideas. Remember use that measuring tape to get what you need.
Look at things on the internet, magazines, etc., that appeal to you; pick 1-3 ideas and take to a local green house or nursery -- NOT a big box store .. they really don't know 'much' about plants .. and you want info from someone in your grow zone so you know which plants will be successful --keep an eye out for how much morning light vs afternoon light the area gets, is it where you can water daily if you have an unusual dry spell ... etc.
