Before they get too large to handle, start by cutting off one half of the branches. Use some streamers, duct tape, or colored twine to mark half the branches, especially those up high so the tree will grow out, not up. Choose a maximum length and trim the remaining limbs six feet shorter than the maximum. That length is especially important near fences, water lines and sewer lines. Roots that invade that space can cause you problems. I hope you get loads of apples. ☺️
