Sal what other colors are in your kitchen? Do you have a theme? Do you want to lighten or darken your kitchen? Go to the paint section of store and pick up several paint chips. Take them home and see what goes and looks best in your kitchen. I did that and ended up choosing a sage green. If you want to transform your kitchen get new hardware at the same time. Or you could always paint the hinges to match your drawer pulls if you don't want to get all new hardware.
Color preference is truly a personal one. If you are tired of the brown a grey might work if you have adjacent areas that would go well with it. Going from dark to light will make a huge difference in the feel of your kitchen. White cabinetry is a true classic, if you like the look.
Are the cabinets painted brown or wood grained. If solid wood, consider a good scrubbing and new hardware.
Hi Sal,
Colors are a very personal choice. A lot of people are painting their cabinets white or light grey to lighten up their kitchens. You could also nail on some wood molding around the edges or in the middle of the doors, to look sort of like a picture frame on the door as a way to transform the look. Here's a tutorial that might help you. Wishing you the best. -Linda
