You might want to think about a Nest type thermostat. Really easy to use. You can set and forget or make adjustments with your smartphone. Our Utility company offerd a program this past summer where we let them take control of the system during really hot days. We would get a $5 or $10 credit applied yo our utility bill. Check with your Utility vompany. Lots of times they offer discount products like thermostats to help customers out.
What type of thermostat do you have? Is it programmable? If not consider replacing yours with a newer model. Not expensive, around $50. I have a low tech household, but with a programmable thermostat. I have it set at 78 or 80 in the summer and in the winter at 70 during the day and 68 at night. I am in Zone 9 and it does not get that cold here other than a few random days here and there. Plus it can save your utility costs once you find temperatures comfortable for your household.
