My favorite way to store shoes is in a vertical shoe holder with pockets that hangs on the back of a door. You can also mount these on the wall if you have a closet with wall space. Good luck!
Hi Carolyn. Here are a few ideas. Hope it helps. https://www.hgtv.com/design/rooms/other-rooms/25-ways-to-store-shoes-in-your-closet-pictures
Carolyn: this is not beautiful... but really does the trick for me. (I have one bin for sandals, another for casual and the last for dress up. I keep them under the bed... and they slide out easily.

I use the clear plastic shoe boxes for my shoes, for any that don't fit in the shoe boxes, I use the small under the bed boxes and also store my boots in them, too. They stay clean and are easy to access, but out of the way. Less used dress shoes I will put in the shoe boxes and store them on an upper shelf in the closet. I hope this helps you store your shoes, Carolyn!
I found shoe racks at a local big box or one-stop grocery store. (I don't remember which, but I suspect Menard's.) I needed three and I stacked them one atop the next, securing them with white electrical tape. (the racks were white). My husband then took heavy wire and made a huge X out of it, securing it to each corner of the finished rack and he also connected the two wires where they cross to further strengthen it. I also used a shim where I needed it.
The footprint is about 24"x 10" and it is about 5' tall. It is against the side wall of my closet. It took too much space when I had it along the back wall, as I have a hard time giving up perfectly good clothing, even when I don't often wear it. :)
