The barn quilts are done on a 4 ft square plywood board. At the turn of the last century, they were quite frequently seen. Each barn quilt was put on a barn, up high where they could be seen. Besty Ross was credited to make the first American flag, which was essentially a quilt top. Blessed are the piece makers- they will inherit the quilts.
Each barn quilt had to be unique, no duplicates, and were put on a registry. Some areas had a barn quilt trail, a rather nice way to kill some time.
