What paint is safe to use for kitchen counter tops?
We plan to paint our old countertop, using a high quality glossy latex paint. I've heard a few comments that painted surfaces are not safe for food prep. Is that so? Would finishing the job with a clear acrylic sealer make it food safe?

NO. Acrylic sealer is not food safe as paint is not food safe for food contact or prep. Use cutting boards. The high gloss latex paint may not holdup long on the countertop. Your best bet would be to use a countetop paint kit for longevity. Of course even the kits are not food safe but give a professional end result.
Hi. Latex paint will not work on anything other than raw wood. A sealer will make the paint last on the wood. Use an epoxy instead. No sealer will make it food prep worthy. Use cutting boards for all your food. Happy DIY'ing.
One product you may want to look at, Lisa, is Rustoleum. They make a countertop restoration kit.
It depends on the sealer..I would always use a cutting board .
