How and where to plant "milkweed" seeds to feed the Monarch Butterfly?
Would like to get a patch of Milkweed plants started to feed the Monarch Butterflies. Where is the best place to plant, what kind of soil, watering, fertilizing, etc., needed to care for the plant? Where to get the seeds?
Thanks,
Mare

I just throw the seeds into loose soil now (fall) and let them do their thing. Any soil will do and nature will water. Be careful, as the milkweed is very invasive. We recently saw our last Monarch a few days ago and it's Nov. in CT. Do not remove plants until they dry up as the Monarch will lay eggs on the under side of the leave and caterpillars will eat away at them causing more butterflies. They are fun to watch
Here is some good info on that https://monarchjointventure.org/get-involved/create-habitat-for-monarchs/ also another suggestion https://www.hometalk.com/diy/www-monarchwatch-org-www-got-milkweed-com-got-milkweed-2135301

I like these plants also, and the black and orange milkweed bugs. I see them along the edges of interstates and parking lots here in Ohio, so it seems they don't care much for any particular soil or regular watering, but do like full sun .
Here's a website you will like- free seeds (but you can buy on Amazon, also) https://www.saveourmonarchs.org/store/c4/Get_Seeds.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiA2o_fBRC8ARIsAIOyQ-kGHxvKldgSb8TQwlhCIRiBqZz2ERWdOk7FnhwV6ki9RoIw8lNqtQ8aAhR9EALw_wcB
Good luck!
Thanks for all the information. Since I don't have a green thumb, my fingers will be crossed while I sow the seeds when I get them.
