I don't think paper Macy's will hold up outdoors... I guess it depends on the amount of rain and humidity your area gets. I would think the best thing you can do is spray it with a clear coat spray paint in matte or gloss finish. Good luck !

Yes, paper mache is not made for exterior use unless you want to completely coat it with something like exterior latex enamel paint.
