Hi Betsy, you may want to get a neighbor, friend or family member to check on your house, take in mail and flyers, water plats, etc. as well as do an overall check to ensure no water lines have burst or other things have broken down. Most insurance companies require this when you are away as well. Make sure it is someone you can trust or hire a bonded professional, there are companies out there for this.
You can put water into your bath tub and put the plants in the water. They will soak up what they need. You can also make or buy waterers that you insert into the plant. You can get blown glass ones or buy nozzles to attach to plastic soda or water bottles.
