How do you make a bench from a high school desk?
I have a very old school desk with the scrolled iron legs. The wood has all fallen off and it’s gone. I want to make a bench out of three of the pieces with a shelf in the back where the desk used to be for plants.

What are the 3 pieces, size? Could you send a picture?
materials: no particle board, no MDF.
CDX or BCX plywood, plus solid pine 2x blocking.
Sketch: where are the fastening points for the iron legs? What size are the holes? You may need washers & I suggest round headed zinc plated bolts with matching nuts.
The shelf can’t exceed 42” without starting to sag in the middle a couple of years down the road, unless you build 2x6 @beams” to hold the shelf.
Send us your sketch & we’ll go from there.

Consider using cedar or redwood, if you can get them. Both stand up to weather and dampness.
