Try using a good primer like Kilz.
Did you prime before you painted or have paint with primer in it? How many coat of paint did you do? Rarely can I get away with just one coat of paint. Try painting another coat and see what it looks like.
Patty: Unfortunately, this is one of those lessons that is tough to learn. You WILL have to prime and then paint again. (...if a second coat of paint does not work. I always paint a second coat.)
If you already painted your piece and some areas are still bleeding, apply a thin coats of oil based primer over the paint (wait for the paint to dry first), then another coat of paint. Repeat the process if necessary. My favorite primer is Rustoleum spray primer. https://goo.gl/CU6Toz
Good luck!
You might need to paint the first coat with a primer paint such as Kilz primer. It covers well and prevents bleeding through. We use the aroma free type of Kilz when we prime a surface.
