That is a matter of personal taste. Are you talking wood burning, gas or electric? Do you want a fireplace for looks or is this for heat also? Would this be ventless or do you have a chimney?
For Incase of loss power for heat I take all out
We have a wood stove in case the power goes out. A glass front gives off a nice glow too. The wood stove creates more heat and the fire lasts longer then in a fireplace. We bought a used stove a few years ago. Got it from the dealer so it was in perfect working order. But not much can go wrong with one anyway. Would do that again in a heartbeat. Nothing beats the feel of the heat created by burning wood on a cold day. Would you go with a fireplace, free standing stove or a fireplace insert? My dad has a fireplace insert and they are very good units. He has a blower on his and it distributes warm air throughout the house.
