Found this awesome lamp/candle holder at thrift store has a bit of grime and green from the weather. How should I clean safe?
Thanks for help
Soap and water, then dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
Spritz with alcohol or peroxide and wipe down.
A damp microfiber cloth run under hot tap water and wrung out.
What is it made of? You might be able to use hydrogen peroxide.
I'd start with old toothbrushes and cheap white toothpaste (buy cheapest toothpaste,) & Dawn dish soap (about 1/2 tsp) in a bucket of warm water, & wear rubber gloves and have a small pile of cotton rags for washing & drying. I use an old shower curtain vinyl liner for a drop cloth. Wash the candle holder, & dry it off, (don't have to be thorough, cuz your gonna wash it again). Now use the tooth brush and tooth paste to scrub it all down with the tooth paste and brush. This will take time, don't rush it. Wash with warm water and cotton rags, as U go along. Dry entire candle holder. Let it sit & air dry for about an hour or so, then evaluate what you want to do next. U may just find u don't need to do anything else to the candle holder. This method sounds to simple to be of benefit but U may be surprised at the results. It's simple, inexpensive and will remove all the dirt, grease, wax & tarnish w/o damage. After cleaning and drying that's the time to determine what else needs to be done. U want to keep the"vintage" qualities.
is it brass maybe grab some brass cleaner and give it a go looks lovely
