Are there smaller head screws I can use to hang my shelf?
I have a wooden shelf with spots to hang on a wall but every screw I've tried to use for it has been too big to fit in the spot designed for the screw to promptly fit

Go to the hardware store and show them what you've tried and they will get you smaller ones
The hardware store has all size of screws. Take the shelf along and find the proper size as well as the plastic anchor to put in the wall.
If you are comfortable using a power drill, you could also make a slightly wider whole to fit your current screws.
Thank you all for the help. I had my boyfriend take them into work and grind them down a bit.
