They are good quality so I don't want to replace.
After you remove, you can soak in a crock pot with hot water set on high.
You can mix white vinegar and baking soda (50/50) and brush on, then wipe off
Spray hinges with a white vinegar and water (50/50) solution then wipe clean. You can soak if needed.
I agree with Kathy to use a hot water soak, however there's no need for vinegar or baking soda. Just a few drops of soap.

I would clean the hardware with soap and water and let dry fully. You can then spray paint them in a metal toned spray paint. (like an oil rubbed bronze color) from Rustileum.
I found a trick of boiling them in water with baking soda and it did a great job. You can see what I did here: https://www.flippingtheflip.com/2015/05/where-are-you-so-its-mini-variety-pack.html
Buy a sanding block(light grid)or pkg of them at local hardware store. I sanded round brass kitchen and door knobs to a beautiful brushed light finish which really saved $$$$$.
I've seen Nicole on one of the those restore shows use a crook pot. Put them in the crock pot with water and turn it on, next day they are easy to clean up.
Thanks for the informative answers. I will post when finished.
Hello Debora,
Well the truth is you should remove them and clean and paint them to do a proper job, but if you have a steady hand you can use an artist brush to do the job. Best wishes.
