Creating space for overnight guests

Jeanette S on Jul 07, 2014For kids it is an easy fix...make tents...how? Easy. Put some sheets (not as hot as blankets) over the dining or kitchen table and you have a tent. A pack of large safety pins can fasten the sheets together! (This will require moving some of you stuff out of there, but if you are hosting 2 families, I assume they are kin.) Get some blow up pool floats to use as mattresses....but since it is warm weather, use your blankets and make pallets. Need a second tent? Turn the dining chairs with backs facing each other, arrange in a square or circle and repeat process. For adults, give them your kids' rooms. Have an adult sleep on the sofa to be watcher of all the kids. During the day, grab up all the blankets, quilts, sheets, pillows, etc. and throw in a corner until time to bed down again! You will be shocked at how the kids will help you! Pillows are $3 at Walmart so buy up a few! Throw in some stuffed animals for company. One time we put 3 little boys in a tent on the screen porch and left the door to the den open for them. THEY LOVED IT! (We had plenty of bed space, but they wanted to sleep in the tent!) Once company is gone you can restore order!Helpful Reply

Connie Z on Jul 07, 2014Try a few inexpensive camping cots that fold to store for later use, under the bed or in a closet. Make them up with nice blankets, sheets...any one can sleep on those for a couple of nights. Kids? Fluffy floor pallets were fine for most of us growing up...maybe borrow sleeping bags from a friends to make them extra fluffy. Def ask friends for help, no need to invest/spend if you can get help from friends!Helpful Reply

Donna Byram on Jul 11, 2014When we were younger and had unexpected guest, mother would pull the top mattress of the beds and put them on the floor and then she would pad the box springs with quilts or or blankets to make an extra sleeping place. You could use a foam pad, thick comforter or even a mattress cover with a pad top. Don't remember anyone complaining. Back then we were just happy we all had a place to sleep.Helpful Reply
