How do I makeover my small closet?
JUST LOOKED AT SOME GREAT CLOSET MAKEOVERS, BUT...….. ONE HAS TO HAVE A WIDE OPEN CLOSET TO DO THOSE THINGS! OLD HOUSE, DUNGEON CLOSET! SMALL DOOR, NO LIGHT, GO IN DOOR, LOOK TO RIGHT, SKINNY CLOSET FOR 5 OR 6 FEET, CAN'T SEE A THING, USING NOW BASICALLY FOR STORAGE - BOXES GO BETTER THERE THAN CLOTHES... HOW DOES ONE MAKE A CLOSET LIKE THIS "USABLE" … ASIDE FROM TAKING A WALL OUT...….? :)

To solve your no light problem: You can buy some great battery operated lights or light strips at places like Menards and mount them to your wall. The batteries last for quite a while and some of these lights and strips are very bright. You can possibly add some shelves and some hanging racks. You can buy relatively inexpensive closet units that may help you out. Perhaps you could post a picture for some better ideas.
I used long tension rods at the bottom of the closet as shoe racks also
I too have a very old house with very small closet’s. I find that if I use nice bright contact paper it has brightened it up quite a bit and i use the overhead touch lights for a better vision
Is there enough room to mount a mirror on a wall and a battery operated high intensity LED light? The mirror would bounce the light.
Painting this space with bright white satin finish paint would also better reflect light.
How wide is this space?
You can add lighting! There are stick on LED lights that light up a pretty big area. They are battery operated and throw off a lot of light. They are called puck lights... https://amzn.to/2LLEgp7 I use them under my kitchen cabinets and they work great!
