How do I organize a small but deep closet?
The closet only has 2 hanging rods. One is higher than the other. Any tips to organizing the closet?

SHERYL on Jan 08, 2015Try Elfa type roll-out or slide-out plastic bins or drawers. Could also store off season clothing in closed bins under the hanging items to the back of your closet space. Utilize side walls for scarf and necklace hangings as well as belts with a wooden spool holder, behind the door shoe pocket holders or inexpensive accessory holders from WalMart.. Also build in simple bracketed shelves on side walls for folded items.Helpful Reply

Lindcurt on Jan 09, 2015My mother I-in-law had small, deep closets. I put 1x2 pines shelves at the back of the closet. I attached 1x2 wooden cleats to the studs on 3 sides and put the 1x12 pine boards on them. She only wanted one rod placed towards the front but one could use two if wanted. There is a lot of shoe and accessory storage on the shelves. If your closet is not stuffed clear full (simplify) it is easy to get to the shelves.Helpful Reply

Barbara Burnham on Jan 09, 2015If it is large enough to walk into I would put another rod on one side for long hanging items, as long as closet really is deep enough and wide enough you aren't bumping the hangers going in and out. Another idea is, on the widest side inside the closet, either side of the door, buy an inexpensive "IKEA" "Billy bookcase for shoe/bag storage. On the side of it use Contact hooks for belts, scarves, hats, lightly worn clothes you'll wear soon, etc.Helpful Reply
