I use those think Viva paper towels.
It isn't necessarily the cloth that's making the smears! Think about what the folks use to clean glasses when you buy them at Visionworks or Walmart. The product is mostly alcohol. You can dilute it to 2 parts alcohol and 1 part water. Then spray or just wet your lint free cloth (or paper towels) and wipe. Depending on how yucky the glass is, you may need to reapply.
Hi. Old t-shirts. Plain white vinegar with equal part water. Wipe dry. Leaves no streaks. Good luck.
I use newspaper. GENEROUSLY SPRAY the table w/vinegar/water solution*, take a few sheets of newspaper crinkled up and start wiping the table. If the table is marked with paint it won't come clean.
*vinegar/water = 1/2 cup vinegar to 1 cup water in a spray bottle.
microfiber
Isopropyl /rubbing alcohol and newspaper or clean white wash cloth. No fabric softener on cleaning cloths it leaves film streaking & smearing. Also most paper towels are either coated or treated for better absorption so they are horrible to clean with. Rubbing alcohol is what's in window cleaners using it straight is how auto detailers get windows clear.
I've had success with microfiber towels.
Vinegar and newspaper. Just like doing windows!
